## Building the Bslim App – Encouraging Kids to Get Active Through Tech
During my third year of university, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a team of classmates on an app for [bslim.nl](https://bslim.nl), an organization focused on promoting sports and physical activity among children.
The goal was to increase event participation by giving kids a simple, engaging way to explore upcoming activities and RSVP directly through the app. We introduced a gamified system using Bslim coins, which kids could earn by scanning a QR code upon attending an event. These coins could later be redeemed for real-world rewards.
To ensure fairness, each event’s QR code was unique and auto-generated, accessible only to event organizers via a dedicated admin interface. Organizers could also view RSVPs and manage their events in-app.
We built the app using **React Native** to support both iOS and Android. The backend was powered by **Python**, and we developed a **WordPress plugin** to push notifications whenever a new event was published on the website.
This project not only sharpened my technical skills but also showed me how technology can directly contribute to community engagement and healthier lifestyles for young people.
